Sometimes people ask me what’s happening in the world of PG Trips, so it’s my intention to do a little bit of self-promotion. Maybe once a month.
📻 Last things first: I’ve just been on the radio!
Abbey 104 FM in Sherbs*, to be precise. I love being on the radio, and the experience last night (Saturday 26 September) was an extra level of radio-whackiness.
Friday night supper - live on Abbey FM - 90 seconds of nonsense
For starters, the interview took up the best part of the hour. They played one music track, the news and some adverts, the rest was chit chat. Wide-ranging chit chat.
For me the highlight was the opportunity to do a live version of Friday night supper, which is my attempt to rap over a DnB backing track specially produced by someone very close to me (hopefully the audio is embedded above).

First things next - Shirley Fringe
September started with what is now an established tradition: the Shirley Fringe festival, organised by Emma and Mark at the Clockwork Bar. I hosted the regular Clockwork Comedy Takeover on Thursday 3rd September, organised a comedy showcase at the hidden gem Maskers Theatre on the Friday night and then performed my first significant poetry set all year back at Maskers on the Saturday evening. A hugely enjoyable three days, and a week that raised over £5000 for the local ‘No Limits’ charity supporting young people in and around Southampton.
Could it be sepsis?
September is sepsis awareness month. You weren’t aware? No, me either so I decided it was high time somebody wrote a rap about it. And performed it over a cult junglist track from the mid-nineties. It got its debut performance at September’s Anything Funny, Eastleigh’s best and only comedy open-mic night.
This terrible video will get your toes curling… and then tapping…
I accept the quality and delivery is appalling, but if I don’t post it now, I’ll have missed Sepsis Awareness Month.
Coming up soon
See the gigs section of my website for more information
Tongue Tied - Weds 30 Sept - Chichester
I am excited that next week sees the start of a new season of Tongue Tied, Chichester’s monthly poetry slam, not least because Pompey’s Punk Poet Laureate Jackson Davies will be on the mic. I have got my performer’s ticket, and I plan to give the audience some public health information about Carbon Monoxide poisoning.
Clockwork Comedy Takeover - Tues 3 Nov
The last take-over of the year, at the most wonderfully welcoming bar in all Southampton. Six more comedians from the local scene will provide you with so much laughter.
Dickens & Co - Monday 11 Nov, New Theatre Royal
I am performing a poem as The Ghost of Christmas Turkey at Dickens & Co - a brand new production. A bunch of poets are reimagining endings to some of Charles Dickens best known stories, accompanied by four famous literary figures from Portsmouth’s history.
Until the next time…
I hope I will see you at local poetry and comedy nights in the coming weeks… and if not… hopefully I will write another of these posts towards the end of October.
And in case you are wondering… here’s my website: pgtrips.online
